KI PUCHDAYO HAAL – HADIQA KIANI
“Ki Puchdayo Haal” brings Hadiqa Kiani’s voice and composition to the poetry of Shiv Kumar Batalvi, with closing poetry by Bulleh Shah, in a meditation on longing, solitude and the journey toward the self.
Directed by Abdullah Haris and filmed across the vast natural landscapes of northern Pakistan, the visual follows Hadiqa as a solitary nomadic figure moving through mountains, rivers, open valleys and ancient terrain. What begins as a journey through isolation gradually becomes one of self-discovery, finding clarity in stillness, nature and distance from the noise of the outside world.
The visual concept existed before the song itself, beginning with a simple thought: to step away from the chaos for a moment and be entirely with yourself. Through Haris’s creative eye, the extraordinary scale and raw beauty of northern Pakistan become more than a backdrop. The landscape becomes part of the emotional journey, allowing Hadiqa’s wanderer to feel small within something far greater than herself.
At its heart, “Ki Puchdayo Haal” moves from separation toward self-realization, from the longing of Shiv Kumar Batalvi’s wanderer to the inward truth found in the words of Bulleh Shah. The piece closes with a soulful narration by Hadiqa’s brother, Irfan Kiani, whose voice carries the final reflection and gives the ending an especially intimate and personal resonance.
